Botox, Dysport, and Jeuveau are neuromodulators, which cause muscles to relax for a period of several months.

Laugh lines, crow’s feet and facial lines overall can create a feeling of self-consciousness as we age. Our skin usually starts to reflect the effects of sun damage, and facial movement which cause lines and creases. Thankfully, these signs of aging are usually not a sign of anything medically concerning. However, they can make us feel less confident about our appearance. Here at Aesthetics on Highland, we can address these issues with neuromodulators.

What are my Neuromodulator Options?

Botox

Botox can take up to 14 days to show full effect

Dysport

Dysport has an onset of 3-5 days

Jeuveau

Jeuveau has an onset of 2-4 days

Botox, Dysport, and Jeuveau are each slightly different formulations of Botulinum toxin type A, a naturally occurring toxin which when injected next to muscle, causes the muscle to relax. This relaxation can be partial or complete, depending on the amount of product used and the strength of the muscle being treated. The 3 different brand names listed above are in reality much more similar than different. Even if you are new to Neuromodulators, choosing your brand can simply come down to how soon you would like the toxin to go into effect.

FDA Approved

The FDA has approved the use of Botox for the treatment of glabellar lines and crow's feet.

Glabellar lines are vertical wrinkles between the eyes. Crow’s feet are wrinkles occurring on the sides of the eyes and in the lower lids, typically with smiling or squinting and forehead lines from lifting your eyebrows.

There are many off-label uses of botulinum products which have become quite popular in recent years. These include bunny lines on the sides of the nose, vertical lines of the lips, and vertical neck bands, also called platysmal bands, muscles which can cause a gummy smile, DAO's, muscles which pull the corners of the mouth downward, and masseter muscles which when overgrown can cause excessive widening of the lower face and/or TMJ pain. Finally, Botulinum toxin can also be used to stop sweating, particularly in the underarms.

Just like with fillers, the key to getting good results with Neuromodulator injections is to have the proper artistic approach to the face as a whole, and to truly understand the desires of each patient. To aid in achieving optimal results, we keep a photographic record of precisely how much neurotoxin is used and where it is injected. This allows for duplication if results are ideal, or fine adjustments if one is seeking a bit more or less muscle relaxation.

What Happens After my Treatment?

There is no recovery or downtime after your treatment of the neuromodulator, which is why this neuromodulator is often called a “lunchtime lift.” You can stop in for a treatment and be on your way again within thirty minutes, returning to work or your usual activities with a smooth, rejuvenated, and more youthful look. This is one of the reasons why neuromodulator is so popular.

Some patients will notice small red bumps just after their treatment. These bumps will disappear in about half an hour. Do not massage or manipulate the treated areas, as this could cause the neuromodulator to migrate. We advise waiting 24 hours after your treatment to exercise or drink alcohol.

How Much do Neuromodulator Injections Cost?

Neuromodulator prices vary depending on how much of the substance is needed. Because each patient’s individual requirements and facial structure is different, the cost of neuromodulators in Manhattan Beach is different from person to person. The number of units needed to achieve the desired results and the number of areas that are treated will factor into the price. Is Neuromodulator Safe?

One of the reasons why injectable facial treatments like neuromodulators are so popular is because they are generally considered very safe. While there are common side effects such as swelling or redness at the injection sites, neuromodulators are low risk — particularly when performed by an experienced, reputable doctor or esthetician.

Neuromodulator and facial fillers are FDA-approved, simple, short treatments that have provided safe, relatively painless, and near-immediate results for millions of people.

When will I see my Neuromodulator Results and How Long do they Last?

Botox results generally begin to appear within four days after the injection, but the full effects of this anti-aging treatment may not be visible for up to two weeks. This is why it is essential to wait an adequate amount of time before pursuing a touch-up treatment.

In terms of how long neuromodulator results will last, you can expect this temporary option to last up to six months. Average results will begin to wear off after about four months. Similar to any injectable treatment, the longevity of the results will vary from patient to patient. An example of this would be how men commonly require neuromodulator injections more often than women.

During your initial consultation at Aesthetics on Highland, we will recommend a Botox treatment plan to help you reach your aesthetic goals and maintain your beautiful results for as long as possible.

Patients may wonder whether they can continue neuromodulator treatments over an extended period or if they should take a break between treatments. There are several advantages to continuing regular, consistent neuromodulator injections, such as needing injections less often or requiring smaller quantities of neuromodulators at each treatment. Additionally, consistent injections can slow the progression of dynamic lines and wrinkles because the muscles stay in a relaxed position over an extended amount of time. This has the effect of prolonging how long your neuromodulator results will last.

What is downtime?

A tiny needle is injected into the treatment area which may cause mild swelling that subsides within a few minutes and possible pinpoint bruising around the eye area may occur. Please refrain from exercise/sweating for at least 24 hours after treatment.
